Winter 2023 Family Law Newsletter: Can Divorce Records Be Kept Private?

The recently published Winter 2023 Family Law Newsletter addresses whether divorcing couples can keep their court records private.

The short answer is maybe. While court documents are generally considered public, a judge may agree to keep certain records under seal and confidential.  Factors supporting a request for privacy include shielding the identity of children, protection from domestic violence, and sensitive business or financial information.

The Winter 2023 newsletter, published by partner Gary Owen Todd, addresses other important Family Law issues, including Social Security’s remarriage rules, the validity of romantic restrictions in a divorce agreement, and the rights of long-term unmarried couples following a breakup.

Mr. Todd, a Founding Partner at the firm, is recognized locally and nationally as a preeminent family law attorney concentrating on domestic relations and probate litigation.  He has successfully negotiated, mediated, and tried numerous family law issues at the trial court and appellate levels.
