Latest Just Transparency blog addresses dangers of hospitals not reporting injuries potentially caused by medical devices
In their latest Just Transparency blog post, Jeffrey Catalano and Eric Asquith address the dangers to patient safety arising from hospitals not fully reporting injuries and deaths potentially caused by medical devices.
The FDA recently reported that three leading Massachusetts hospitals, among others across the country, failed to adequately report patient deaths and injuries partially caused by medical devices – despite a federal mandate of full reporting to help the FDA analyze potential harm to patients.
"Without hospitals fulfilling this mandate, the FDA cannot ensure that devices used in medical settings are safe for patients, potentially compromising the safety of any patient exposed to such devices," Mr. Catalano and Mr. Asquith write. "This effectively strips patients of being able to make informed decisions about their medical care, and could expose them to an increased risk of harm or death."
Mr. Catalano, a partner at the firm, represents victims of catastrophic injuries, including those resulting from medical negligence. He is the current President of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Mr. Asquith concentrates his practice on representing clients in a variety of personal injury matters, including medical malpractice cases.
