Jeff Catalano to deliver remarks at 18th Annual Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid

Jeffrey N. Catalano, partner at the firm and President of the Massachusetts Bar Association, will deliver remarks as part of the 18th Annual Walk to the Hill slated for Jan. 26. at the Massachusetts State House.

Hundreds of attorneys are expected to converge on Beacon Hill for one of the largest lobby days of the year. Judiciary and bar leaders will address the crowd before participants then lobby individual legislators to protect state funding for programs that provide civil legal aid to low-income Massachusetts residents.

Protecting vulnerable citizens at a critical time of need will be the theme animating Mr. Catalano's remarks.

"The legal needs of low-income individuals in our state far exceed the number of private lawyers who can represent them," Mr. Catalano said. "We anticipate even greater needs related to immigration, health care, housing, and civil rights among others in the coming years. We must not retreat on funding for civil legal aid so that agencies can continue to deliver equal access to justice."

The Walk to the Hill is sponsored by the Equal Justice Coalition, a collaboration of the Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation.
