Ingrid Martin Discusses Heightened Health Care Fraud Enforcement in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly
Todd & Weld Partner Ingrid Martin was recently quoted in a Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly article examining the U.S. Department of Justice's expanding health care fraud enforcement efforts and the increasing use of advanced data analytics and artificial intelligence to identify potential fraud.
The article, "Defense lawyers in demand amidst health care fraud crackdown," explores how federal and state authorities are intensifying their focus on health care fraud investigations, including through the DOJ's National Health Care Fraud Takedown and enhanced enforcement initiatives.
Drawing on her experience from advising and defending health care providers, Martin discussed the recent increase in Medicaid fraud enforcement activity in Massachusetts and the factors contributing to that trend.
"They are very active right now. I have a number of cases with them," Martin told Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, noting that increased auditing activity and financial pressures on Medicaid providers have contributed to greater enforcement scrutiny. She also observed that reimbursement challenges can create incentives for providers to engage in riskier billing practices.
