Todd & Weld Obtains $450K Settlement in Failure to Diagnose Breast Cancer Case

The firm obtained a $450,000 settlement on behalf of a woman who underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, as reported in the Aug. 10, 2015 issue of Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.

The woman had a family history of breast cancer. Despite the presence of a lump in her left breast, two radiologists interpreted separate mammogram and ultrasound results as showing no evidence of malignancy. She eventually underwent a bilateral breast MRI, which was interpreted as highly suspicious for malignancy in the left breast. Shortly thereafter, MRI core biopsies revealed Stage 3 cancer.

The woman's medical treatments were successful, and she survived more than five years post-diagnosis, making the reoccurrence of the cancer highly unlikely.

The case settled after discovery.
