Overview
John Geary focuses his practice on complex civil litigation. He represents individuals and businesses in a variety of disputes in federal and state courts and brings significant courtroom experience to his practice.
Mr. Geary previously served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office in Fall River, Massachusetts. In that role, he represented the Commonwealth at all stages of criminal prosecution and tried numerous trials to verdict involving both felony and misdemeanor charges. His work included litigating evidentiary and dispositive motions, conducting witness examinations, and working closely with law enforcement and victim advocates in the preparation and trial of cases.
Prior to joining Todd & Weld, Mr. Geary was a litigation attorney for a Boston law firm, where he focused his practice on a wide range of civil litigation matters. His practice included product liability, premises liability, construction defect, wrongful death, automobile torts, and business litigation claims. He handled cases in the Massachusetts Superior Court, Massachusetts District Court, and the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, conducting depositions, managing discovery, preparing dispositive motions, and representing clients in mediation and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
Mr. Geary earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, where he received the Jurisprudence Award in Evidence and participated in the school’s Defender Program representing indigent clients charged with felony and misdemeanor offenses in the Boston Municipal Court. He received his B.A., summa cum laude, in Communication Studies from Emerson College, where he was a member of the varsity basketball team and served as team captain.
